#BizSermons: Know when to rest
Last night I fought a battle with fear and pain, vulnerability and fatigue... and honestly, who can tell who won?
Sometimes I’m not sure how to keep putting one foot in front of the other. There’s a kid to raise and a business to run, a house to clean and a body that feels like it needs 26 hours of rest a day.
I don’t have answers. I’m simply determined. Determined to still like waking up, and to giggle at the joyful and the ironic. Determined to craft a life built on the things I love... Writing little love notes from my heart to yours and making a few of us feel less alone.
On days like today, I’m grateful for my hard-won wisdom that says Rest a little longer so you can fight a little harder.
The glorification of busy and hustle that we see all around us is daunting and ineffective. We do not need any more people burning the candle at both ends. We need people who are nourished enough to show up and serve for the long haul.
So if, like me, you are building a business and pursuing your purpose while feeling drained…
…maybe you’re a single mama. 👋
…maybe you’re any kind of mama. Co-parenting, community, fur, foster.
…maybe you’re on day who-knows-what of chronic illness. 👋
…maybe you’re pushing through school and work for a better life.
Then I encourage you to go to sleep when your body asks you to. To “drop” some of the balls and responsibilities—on purpose. To know that caring for your one precious life is more important than looking like a high achiever.
Because when you put you first, you give yourself the grace and strength to show up again and again.
And in the mean time, might I advise you to invest in some neon lighting and a robotic vacuum for all of the messy middle days in between. It’s the little things that help you smile and move forward.
xoxo
