#BizSermons: Say thanks to your past self
Sometimes I see this picture on my phone, and I don’t even recognize this girl. I don’t recognize her, but I love her. She saved my life.
This is the girl who took off at a moment’s notice to figure herself out. She’s sitting in a hotel room, alone for the first time in 2 years, feeling her way through the hardest things life can throw at you.
If it weren’t for her and her decision to spend 2 days that turned into 4 days wandering around gardens and drinking whisky and asking hard questions, I wouldn’t be here.
She’s the one who came back with a plan to get out of a toxic relationship. The one who called the therapist and ran the numbers and built the business. The one who knew that saving her own skin and heart was more important than saving her image.
Some days, life is exhausting and lonely... it can feel like I’m drowning, looking for life rafts and pulling up anchors.
But on those days, I remember that this girl is me. That she has lived through much harder things than my current self will ever come near to experiencing. And so, I might swallow some salt water, but I’ll keep afloat.
For teaching me that, I’m eternally grateful to her. For getting me here, for nestling me safe into a new life and new home, I owe her my life.
Where has your past self gotten you? Have you told her thank you lately?
xoxo
